PROECO AZUERO

Pro Eco Azuero is a “living laboratory” located on Panama’s Azuero Peninsula. Since 2010, they have been dedicated to reforestation, habitat restoration, sustainable land management, and environmental education with the mission to:

Preserve the earth’s ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and promote healthy communities by helping people to make informed decisions, take sustainable actions, and share knowledge.

In collaboration with local landowners, Pro Eco Azuero is restoring habitat along a biological corridor 80km in length, with a 10km buffer on each side - nearly 25,000 hectares - made up of nearly 400 privately owned properties. The project aims to gradually restore the critically important tropical dry forest ecosystem and support sustainable land use practices in the Azuero.

ALMANAQUE AZUL

A Panamanian NGO dedicated to safeguarding the country’s natural and cultural diversity through education and research. They seek to inspire community knowledge, strengthen education, and promote responsible tourism, believing these are the pillars for protecting Panama’s natural and cultural heritage.

In 2023, Rossie our founder commission Almanaque Azul to create the first map to highlight the fragmentation of the Biological Corridors of Panama. Our MAPA curriculum uses Almanaque Azul’s Biological Corridor map in education allows students to visualize and understand the connectedness of Panama’s ecosystems, showing how intact wildlife corridors sustain biodiversity, water resources, and ecological balance.

It teaches map literacy, helping students interpret spatial data, recognize patterns, and think critically about environmental challenges. Beyond technical skills, the map inspires stewardship, encouraging students to see the tangible impact of conservation and imagine a future where communities actively protect natural pathways. In short, it blends science, geography, and civic awareness to foster knowledge, agency, and a sense of responsibility toward a balanced and sustainable environment.

ESTUDIO NUBOSO

They are an arts and ecology organization dedicated to promoting a better relationship between humans and nature, with a focus on the care and regeneration of tropical ecosystems in Panama. A group of artists, designers, educators, and researchers who facilitate space and time for encounters between people, nature, science, culture, and diverse communities.

Most recently they partnered in the the Nature-Culture Corridors Map making a large scale participatory, living map that explores ecological connectivity in Panama. It is a collaboration between Almanaque Azul and Estudio Nuboso and underwritten by Rossie and her mom Sylvia. It identifies key points in the country where forest preservation is essential to ensure the free movement of species, while also identifying areas where deforestation has disrupted these flows and where connections need to be restored. More than a static cartography, this project invites us to think of the territory as a constantly changing network, where nature and human action intertwine to restore and protect the country's biological corridors.

Biological corridors remind us that kinship extends beyond species — they are living spaces where we learn that sustainability, economics, education, and the well-being of future generations are all intertwined, like the roots that hold our jungle together.
